Our Financial Services practice exposes you to a wide range of high-profile policy and political issues, including capital markets union, fintech and payments policy, economic crime and cyber security, consumer affairs, capital markets and retail banking.​

The role​

The role will focus on EU policymaking and negotiations, with a particular focus initially on the EU’s Digital Finance Package and Capital Markets Union agenda and the planned reviews set out in the workplans of the Commission and the European Supervisory Authorities. The role additionally requires a proactive approach to anticipating the future regulatory and political agenda, including the likely pressures on the Commission from EU member states and political groups in the European Parliament, and a desire to develop additional expertise as needed.

  • Support clients to assess the risks and opportunities of evolving financial services policy and regulation and analyse public and political expectations
  • Support the development of content, briefings and thought leadership on financial services issues for clients across wholesale and capital markets, asset management and banking.
  • Research political and regulatory developments affecting financial institutions, including political priority issues like sustainable finance, digital finance, forthcoming EU legislation on capital markets and banking, payments, crypto and fintech.
  • Deliver rigorous and clear written analysis and advice for clients seeking to respond to, and engage in, the policy and decision-making process in the UK, EU and key member states.
  • Present and explain information and hypotheses about politics and policy to expert and often senior audiences, using power point and other data visualisation creatively.
  • Identify, map and prioritise key stakeholders across the EU and multi-lateral institutional landscape for clients, and provide advice on their motivations and on the best approach to engagement.
  • Contribute to longer, deep-dive research projects advising investors on political and regulatory risks and opportunities related to specific transactions or companies
  • Plan and script engagement for businesses to draw on with key stakeholders, including where creative responses to new policy proposals are needed.
  • Support design and delivery of workshops and events for Global Counsel colleagues and for clients
  • Produce original written content, including policy papers, published blogs, progress reports and marketing material, to build your own profile and that of Global Counsel in Brussels
  • Support business development by researching potential target clients.
