Welcome back to the Global Month Ahead, Global Counsel's briefing on the events and stories that will define the month to come.

In each episode, Global Macro Associate Director Isabelle Trick will hear from different members of the GC team to preview the month's stories before they are in the headlines.

This month:

  • Will US midterms usher in a divided government? Republicans are poised to make gains in both the House and possibly the Senate in midterm elections scheduled for November 8th. Director Robert Etter joins us to preview the race, and look towards what will be possible for President Joe Biden under a divided government and a looming debt ceiling fight.
  • Indonesia hosts the G20 Summit amid numerous diplomatic crises. Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the global struggle between the US and China, and continuing economic uncertainty threaten to overwhelm this month's G20 Summit. Associate Dedi Dinarto joins us from Jakarta to report on what he's seeing on the ground from event preparation, review Indonesia's G20 priorities, and look towards the presidency's move to New Delhi.
  • COP27: the world's most important climate summit kicks off in Egypt. The European gas crisis has leaders racing for both gas supply and clean energy infrastructure, while extreme weather events throughout the summer underline the risks of a changing climate. Associate Director Felicity Hall joins us to unpack what makes COP so significant, what she expects to see later this month in Egypt, and how global events are impacting sustainability pledges.
