In memoriam of Paul Myners

Last weekend, Lord Myners, our vice-chairman passed away. Global Counsel Managing Director Benjamin Wegg-Prosser reflects on his life and achievements:

"Paul Myners leaves a lasting legacy across British public life. He played a central role in guiding the UK economy out of the global financial crisis. He supported cultural projects which will be enjoyed for generations to come. He stood up for good governance and against crony capitalism in a way which few of his peers have had the courage to do. He backed businesses big and small to create jobs and build new industries. He used parliament to tackle vested interests to the benefit of the wider public good. He cherished his Cornish heritage and took huge pride in the work he did to assist his hometown of Truro.

For the colleagues whom he leaves behind at Global Counsel, where he was our vice-chair and a shareholder, we have nothing but fond memories and much sadness. It’s unlikely anyone will ever write a history of Global Counsel, but if they do, the role which Paul played will be a significant chapter. He joined us in 2016 when we entered a period of growth as we grappled with the challenges of Brexit and opened offices in Singapore and Brussels. He embraced every aspect of our work with energy and enthusiasm. He would declare to anyone who asked him that “Global Counsel is the best policy consultancy in the world”. He helped the leadership of the business think more strategically about where it needed to be going and took responsibility to help us get there. He encouraged junior colleagues with warm praise, candid advice and great kindness.

He will be sorely missed at Global Counsel. We are just a footnote in his stellar career, but we will never forget him."
